Welcome to the twelfth day of my daily October posts! Throughout these next 20-days, I will be posting different spooky fun facts, tricks and treats. Today, we will be discussing who would win in a fight between werewolves and vampires as well as why they are always set against one another. Enjoy!
It’s time to answer one of the biggest questions in Halloween and all things spooky history: who would win in a fight—a vampire or a werewolf? If we’re being honest, it is 100% the vampire that is winning! If we’re going base level vampire vs. base level werewolf, then you have an intelligent creature that’s lived hundreds or thousands of years with superhuman strength, speed, durability, and heightened senses up against a creature that is purely instincts and not in their right state of mind. Vampires are individuals who drink blood through massive manipulation techniques and if we are going off of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula, are able to transform into mist, fog, large dogs, and bats. It should not be a question as to who would win, but why they’re put up against one another in the first place. Vampires, simply from having the ability to be in their right state of mind, would easily kill a werewolf who is going off on their instincts alone no matter their power scale, heightened senses and durability. Another point I would like to raise is that werewolves can only become these wolf-man monsters when it is a full moon. However, vampires are the way they are no matter what time of the day or month it is. However, neither of them exist during the day—or are not able to anyway. Therefore, for them even to be able to fight one another it would have to be on a night of a full moon. If a vampire discovered who a werewolf was, wouldn’t they just be able to find that werewolf once they’re a human again and kill them another night? Couldn’t they just transform into a mist and crush the werewolf right there? Ultimately, there is no playing with this, vampires would win in a fight against a werewolf.
Although not every piece of fantasy media has been werewolf vs. vampire, it is the most common scenario—if you will. This theme is usually supported by a history between the two creatures or envy in some way, such as vampires, envying werewolves for their ability to turn back into humans, and werewolves and envying vampires’ immortality. Some believe that they both share the same food source—humans, and are simply claiming their territories, or are unwilling to share the prey as a whole. However, I think the most likely reason for their common hatred for one another is the unnatural vs. natural order. Vampires are unnatural, dead creatures, whereas werewolves are cursed, bitten, or have inherited animal-like shapeshifting through their bloodlines. Certain animal-persons have been seen as protectors throughout different cultures and folklore for thousands of years. I also believe that there’s a level of rivalry as vampires and werewolves are some of the strongest monsters that there are. They are both beast-like human formed creatures that have separate abilities of destruction.
Thank you for reading this mini series and make sure to come back to see tomorrow's post!
