Welcome to the second day of my daily October posts! Throughout these next 30-days, I will be posting different spooky fun facts, tricks and treats. Today, we will be going through my top 15 favorite autumn movies I recommend watching this October!! Enjoy!
Warning: Take heed, I am aware of some of the political issues with certain authors on this list. I am talking purely about the films and actors people have come to love, not the authors. This blog avoids politics as I would like to keep it a positive, open and loving space! On the 21st century poet blog, we support all equally with love and care. ❤️
1. Hocus Pocus (1993) - Rated PG-13. A film for the whole family focusing on evil witches and hilarious interactions despite the circumstances. Great pick to watch after trick-or-treating this Halloween!
2. When Harry Met Sally (1989) - Rated R. Should you mix romance with a goofy friendship? This movie will answer your question, for better or worse. It’s set throughout multiple years and seasons, but you cannot deny the beauty of autumn in New York.
3. Coraline (2009) - Rated PG. My personal favorite autumn film. The atmosphere of this film will bring you closer to the magic of autumn while also giving you a few frights. Make sure to check behind your doors...
4. Sleepy Hollow (1999) - Rated R. Phenomenal performances and the headless horseman brought to light in this spooky film. There’s just something about the cold falling leaves that you can sense through the screen.
5. Hotel Transylvania (2012) - Rated PG. Stacked cast, a human in a monster hotel, and a party—what could go wrong?
6. Dead Poets Society (1989) - Rated PG. Robin Williams, poetry and autumn in one film. Need I say more?
7. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998) - Not Rated. My favorite Scooby-Doo film ever! It’s actually quite scary. The gang sticks together and solves yet another mystery, although they were searching for a real mystery. Did they finally find someone without a mask?
8. Corpse Bride (2005) - Rated PG. Follow the fiancés as they face death itself. A horrifying story littered beneath the whimsical and musical landscape of the afterlife. A Tim Burton phenomenon as per usual!
9. Death Becomes Her (1992) - Rated PG-13. Two feuding beauties and one man—what happens when magic is thrown into the mix?
10. The Addams Family (1991) - Rated PG-13. This iconic family of strange creatures, love, and misery is a lovely watch during this season. Grab some Booberry or Count Chocula cereal and let’s get to watching!
11. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) - Rated G. A lovely short movie from many years ago focusing on the beloved Charlie Brown in autumn. In this classic, we find the kids trick-or-treating and exploring the pumpkin patch. Perfect for families who just need a short break to focus on Halloween!
12. Casper (1995) - Rated PG. Everyone’s favorite friendly ghost! A perfect not-so-scary ghost movie to watch with the whole family! Perfect for those reminiscent grown 90s kids as well!
13. The Twilight Series (2008 - 2012) - Rated PG-13. The perfect hoa hoa hoa season tribute. Make sure to get the girls together and choose your team—leave it in the comments below! I am team Jacob for life!
14. The Harry Potter Series (2001 - 2011) - Rated PG. This fun-loving and rather eerie series is full of twists, turns, and spells. I will warn you, beware of the bewitching of the beauty of the Hogwarts world! You may never be the same once you enter. If you do not wish to take heed, then leave your house in the comments below! I personally am a Hufflepuff. 💛
15. The Tolkien Series: Lord of the Rings (2001- 2003) and The Hobbit (2012 - 2014) - Rated PG-13. I could describe the beauty of the landsca[ing from these series all day long but that wouldn’t be fair to you when you could just watch the films. These films are filled with mysterious creatures, far off travels, and friendships of warmth. It is littered with beauty and decay. I strongly recommend both of these series! After all, we all are “going on an adventure!” —Bilbo Baggins.
Honorable mention: The Ghostbusters Series (1984 - 2024) - Rated PG. The absolute best paranormal investigators who also fight ghosts?? These movies have geniuses, humor, and of course, the marshmallow man. Make sure to pop in and give them a call!
Thank you for reading and make sure to come back for tomorrow's post!
Sincerely,
your 21st century poet <3
