Welcome to the fifteenth day of my daily October posts! Throughout these next 17-days, I will be posting different spooky fun facts, tricks and treats. Today, I will be sharing my top 10 spellcaster reads that I recommend checking out this October! Enjoy!
Warning: Take heed, I am aware of some of the political issues with certain authors on this list. I am talking purely about the stories people have come to love, not the authors. This blog avoids politics as I would like to keep it a positive, open and loving space! On the 21st century poet blog, we support all equally with love and care. ❤️
The Very Irregular Society of Witches (2022) by Sangu Mandanna - Are you looking for a cozy story filled with new beginnings, romance and maybe a twist or two? Well this is the right novel for you! There is a little sprinkle of magic in it too…
A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping (2025) by Sangu Mandanna - Come and check out her newly published autumn-tale! This novel is filled with my favorite themes of Mandanna—romance, found family, and plot twists!
A Discovery of Witches (2011) by Deborah Harkness - A phenomenal 5-book series—thus far anyway. My favorite books on this list! If you are looking for tales about witches, vampires, demons and them all existing amongst humans, this one is for you! A unique take on the world of the supernatural.
The Late Night Witches (2025) by Auralee Wallace - Yet another newly published novel!! This novel will provide you with all things family, autumn, and fighting for your home! It is just a beautiful and rather funny exploration of magic. It’s definitely one of my favorites on this list!
Oak Haven Witches (2024) by Emily Grimaire - A 2-book, nearly 3-book series—this upcoming year (2026). A romantasy (fantasy romance), a family of witches fighting for their town, and a family inn? Sounds perfect to me!
The Ex Hex (2021) by Rachel Hawkins - A humorous and at times comical novel following spells, hexes—that sometimes work… and romance!
Practical Magic (1995) by Alice Hoffman - A 3-book series that inspired the 1998 film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Two sisters bound by a family curse try their best to live normal lives, but how do both of these things impact their love lives?
Nightbooks (2018) by J. A. White - A young boy is trapped by a witch that forces him to tell her a scary story each night in order to stay alive. The 2021 Netflix adaptation is also a thrilling recommendation!
The Spellshop (2024) by Sarah Beth Durst - This was one of the top cozy, autumn books of last year and it definitely deserved to be! If you want to read a cozy novel with themes of romance, illegal bookshops and cottage-core, then this is the right book for your autumn season!
The Harry Potter Series (1997) by J. K. Rowling - A 7-book series for you late-night readers! If you enjoy the world of Harry Potter in the movies, then you will love the details included in the book series.
Thank you for reading and make sure to come back for tomorrow's post!
Sincerely,
your 21st century poet <3
